Corridor study and feasibility study for a road con-nection in the Hindukush Mountains, including a tunnel at high altitude at the Salang pass
Proof check of a corridor and feasibility study for con-struction of a winter-safe road crossing the Hin-dukush Mountains for connecting the capital Kabul with the northern provinces of Afghanistan.
Comparison of four corridor options, consisting on the one hand side upgrading the existing road, in-cluding refurbishment of the existing Salang tunnel and construction of a second tunnel tube (Option 2A) and construction of two new tunnel tubes at lower al-titude respectively (Option 2), and on the other hand construction of new roads through mountainous ter-rain, including construction of twin-tube tunnels at high altitude (Option 3 and 4). All options include av-alanche galleries and other protection measures against natural risks such as rock fall, debris flows etc.
